Modifications to the NoteSmith 2008 Program File

For any error appearing below, go to File, Online, Freshen to download new program files or right click the file above and Save Target As.

  • Restoring data from a FlashDrive gives a “backup incomplete” message if encryption is turned off. If it is on, a possible problem with copying file NSLtrHd.bmp, which is in use by the program. 9/1/07

  • After freshening a server, workstations freshen themselves, exit, then freshen again when restarting. 9/1/07

  • IRS electronic filing no longer requires a replacement mark or a Media Tracking Slip number. These were removed from the program after the manual went to press. 9/4/07. Corrected accounts should be filed on paper.

  • Backup warning! Vista does not allow files to be written to the C:\Program Files folder for security reasons. To maintain compatibility with software written prior to its release, Vista makes a “virtualization” copy of data that normally would appear in Program Files, buries it deep in the C:\Users folder, and uses that copy, not the originally installed files. If you create your own backup routine instead of a routine built into NoteSmith, be sure you copy the data files in the User folder and not the files in the Program Files folder. The routines built into NoteSmith, which include File, Utilities, Backup and also File, Online, Backup, use the correct Users folder data.

  • File, View opens in the PrintToFile folder of the current data folder that is in use. Changed to open in the standard Data\PrintToFile installed by the CD, which is where all created files are stored. 11/11/07

  • File, Online, Backup gives an error under Vista when the Connect button is clicked. Download the latest NS08andVista.pdf from the web site after freshening your program files. 11/17/07

  • Recording payments: When 0--Ask is the late order and a PITI payment larger than expected is received, but without a late fee, the expected amount is credited instead of the full amount paid. Fixed 12/10/07

  • Accounts, Record, second tab does not always refresh when Lookup changes. 12/10/08

  • Form letters printed Reference and Loan Number regardless of whether Payment, Property, or Both is chosen; modified behavior of name and letter printing when 'Both on 1' or 'Both on 2' is chosen; previewing to Screen could cause database to be marked. 1/28/08

  • We have 2 different "final" versions of Form 1098. If your red ink form shows a double height Optional Box 4, the shipping version of NoteSmith prints it correctly. If it has a single height Optional Box 5, freshen your files. Note that the bottom box of the third form may require a loan number, which PC printers cannot access due to the narrow bottom margin of the new form, and may require you to type the loan number. Read the detailed information in the 2008 FAQ file above. 1/4/08

  • It may not be possible to select "1099" for a payable note at Accounts, Edit, Investment. Changed 1/15/08

  • Modified Bankruptcy B-10a so graphics would match other payor reports. 1/18/08

  • With Late Order: 5 and a manual service fee charged such as for non-deductible points, the next Regular payment displays the service fee applied again on the history. 4/28/08

  • Added larger bottom margin to escrow report. 6/25/08
