What is new in NoteSmith 2009?

Details about the features of this new release appear below. The first shipment date, which will be for first time customers only, is expected to be October 6, 2008. Renewal announcements for NoteSmith 2008 customers will be mailed in the last half of November, 2008.

New for all NoteSmith2009 programs

  • Full Windows Vista compatibility, with data installation to Vista read/write folders; manifest added to the main program file to allow installation and use as a true Vista program while maintaining Windows XP compatibility
  • Pay date check added to Exceptions report to help eliminate incorrect typing of future payment dates
  • The Record window has a new warning to ask for confirmation of pay dates more than 90 days in the future
  • F3 pops up the true, printable payment history, instead of the spreadsheet used in previous years, from Accounts, Edit and other places in the program

Revised and updated for all NoteSmith2009 programs

  • Electronic (online) filing of IRS 1098s or print the entire 1098, 1099-A, or 1099-C payor/payee B and C copies on blank paper; only the new NoteSmith can submit files or fill in the new IRS forms due January 2009
  • All Accounts option was added to Print Options for all relevant reports
  • Aging report was designed as a portfolio report, but shows enough detail to make collections calls
  • All portfolio reports print in a useful, optionally selectable sequence with standard, consistent column headings, including a new Order subtitle to display user options selected
  • All coupons use the same double window envelope layout for 3 up, receipts, and invoices
  • Detailed receipt shows due dates and page totals in both form letter and statement format
  • Bankruptcy B-10a modified so graphics match other payor reports, yet coordinate with B-10.
  • Capital Gains report shows loan numbers as well as names
  • Letters can be unlocked for bankrupts by an administrator
  • Regulation Z: Program calculates APR when there are finance fees added to the loan
  • Standard bold non-serif font used for legible reading down to 75% zoom or less on all portfolio reports
  • Accrued Interest report adds choice of displaying by name or loan number
  • Reports that are printed to a file appear in a folder accessible to others on your local area network
  • To ensure greater data stability, the Notepad functionality was rewritten; issues with power surged Notepad data will not impact the ability to record payments or run reports; all Notepad data and features are available, with up to 750 pages of densely packed text accessible for each account
  • Administrator check so that privileged computer actions, such as freshening the Program Files folder or installing a PDF printer, are honored according to Windows XP and Windows Vista settings
  • Data is now stored in a folder outside of the Program Files folder and can be moved as desired
  • Importing of last year's data is automated, even if Windows Vista moved it to a "Virtual Store" folder
  • Email Technical Support directly from the Help menu, optionally attaching a backup of your data

  • Email any portfolio-style report to the recipient of your choice, including Custom Reports and Graphs
  • Email support for Outlook, MAPI clients (Outlook Express, Eudora), and limited support for other email programs
  • Email a NoteSmith® to Word merged document right from the Print Options window
  • New filters to highlight or hide payors with email addresses; new No Filter button added to save time resetting the program

  • Electronic filing of 1099-INT, plain paper printing of B&C copies of 1099-INT and 6252
  • Collections report was completely revised, strictly designed for making collections calls, adding all account phone numbers, notepad information, reminder date, promise date, last late letter sent
  • Credit bureau module overhauled to make exporting easier, directions in manual more specific
  • Optionally print second payor contact information on the Collections report
  • Optional online backup and restore can be completed from a single button
  • QuickBooks exporting displays classes twice as long as previously to allow more meaningful QB reports

New for all NoteSmith2008 programs

  • All payor and company configuration data can be encrypted when exiting the program to prevent hackers or thieves from accessing your data files without a NoteSmith program or your password
  • Backup files can be encrypted for sending securely across the internet
  • Support for installation under Windows Vista
  • New application of payment sequence where Principal and Interest can be credited before Escrow, handy for use with FNMA or FHLMC security instruments
  • Ask, Accrue, and Cancel options for Late Fees on both PITI or TIPI sequences
  • Lock payments, lock letters, and lock editing for individual accounts
  • Print amortization schedules using daily interest if designated in the payor's account
  • Accounts, Move lets you copy or cut account from the Backup folder to restore a deleted account
  • Speed-up option reduces wait time for repetitive messages, such as during the 5-day automatic backup

New for all NoteSmith2007 programs

  • Print preview at up to 500% zoom with smooth fonts at all sizes; 1, 2, and 4 up previewing; print 2 up, 4 up, and duplex if your printer supports these features; print ranges of pages, such as pages 2-5 or just the current page

  • Printing to a file has a View option to ensure report was generated and then can be saved to specific folder

  • Warning pops up when recording payments if maturity date has passed or remaining payments are zero

  • Warning when closing an account with no payments, especially helpful for new users

  • Add Account Wizard to simplify adding new notes and prorating the first month of interest

  • Payoff Payment Wizard to help apply the final payment and close the account

  • Payoff report compounds interest on non-USRule notes; handles zero monthly payment loans; periodic or daily

  • Support for USB flash drives with B: drive letters

 Revised and updated for all NoteSmith2007 programs

  • Electronic (online) filing of IRS 1098s or print the entire 1098 payor and payee copy on blank paper. Only the new NoteSmith® can submit files or fill in the new IRS forms due January 2007. Test file capability was added to the upload file and the printed upload file. Note that the IRS no longer accepts diskettes.

  • The 1098 printed report for electronic filing was modified to display information you need while online at the IRS site; the program is hot linked to the IRS site so you can access it with one mouse click; File, Company Configurations now stores your IRS upload information so you don’t have to look it up each year

  • All reports now consolidated under the Reports menu to reduce confusion over Portfolio menu

  • Reminder message pops up on Accounts, Edit as well as Accounts, Record

  • Most reports designed for payor use were modified to print in selectable letter or statement format; all payor reports and letters are formatted for double window envelopes

  • Histories have full headers and page numbers on subsequent pages for easy identification

  • Late letter 1 now prints same partial payment received information as the other late letters

  • Late fees set to 4: Accrue do so with first partial payment rather than last to avoid inconsistent payment cycles

  • Coupons print from user selected range, not just from the last payment, to allow printing 12 monthly coupons starting in January even if December payment was not yet made; print coupons sequentially or in booklet format to cut, stack, and staple

  • Labels and envelopes can use the same company letterhead bitmap as form letters

  • Freshening program files is available from File, Online for all users so web browsing is not necessary

  • Help, Technical Support window was completely revised to get you answers with the shortest turnaround time; includes new live link to the Technical Support web page and the Current Issues page

  • Under the hood, NoteSmith® preprocesses your data for speedy display, then uses the latest revision to Structured Query Language to ensure compatibility with ANSI-92 standards

  • Numerous other minor features were added based on user feedback

  • The complete manual was updated and expanded; it is available from within NoteSmith® in PDF format, allowing full search capability as well as in printed format

  • Custom report has new summary feature to hide detail and print only summary lines; new View option to immediately display reports sent to file; optionally add titles and fields to header of TXT and CSV files

  • QuickBooks export saved automatically to PrintToFile folder, file name uses the month number instead of name to appear in sequence, investor code is part of the name to allow sequential exports

  • Custom reports window modified to make it easier to set up a report the first time or edit existing ones

  • Freshening the server program files freshens the workstations to reduce online time and administration

  • Net25 users can activate all workstations at the web site without need for faxing
